The bridge is designed as a cast in-situ concrete box girder constructed in balanced cantilever with a 226 m central span. The approach viaducts are designed with box sections of constant depth. The span length varies from 45 to 48 m, and the foundations of the main bridge and approach viaducts are constructed on bored piles of 0.8, 1.2 and 1.5 m diameter.

Norconsult was assigned a contract to carry out the design and tendering services including prequalification of contractors, assistance to PWD during the tender period and tender evaluation.

NCE was later responsible for construction supervision of the Rama III Bridge. This phase included the rehabilitation of the old Krungthep Bridge, a steel bascule bridge running alongside the new bridge.
