Norconsult was awarded the contract for the detailed design in 1992. The project area is mainly situated on the west side of the city of Bangkok, but the route also crosses the Chao Phraya River.

The project comprises 30 km of 6-lane expressway with frontage roads, and about 40 bridges, of which the majority are viaducts, flyovers and interchanges, in addition to a major bridge across the Chao Phraya River.

Structures are standardized in order to reduce construction costs and time, using pre-cast segmental box girders with external pre-stressing. The major bridge across the Chao Phraya River is a pre-stressed concrete box girder constructed by the free cantilever method.

The project was split into five construction contracts. The first contract, including the bridge over Chao Phraya, started in the field in November 1999 and was completed in April 2002. Norconsult provided the Project Manager, Bridge Expert, Soils Expert and Pavement Expert on the supervision team. The other four contracts started in April 2001, and Norconsult provided Project Manager, Bridge Expert and Pavement Expert.
